Nassau County — UPDATE 11:33 A.M: William Broyles has entered a not guilty plea during his appearance in front of a judge. The tentative trial date is set for May 25, and his next pre-trial hearing will be on March 10.

William Conway Broyles, a musician and former director of music ministries at his church accused of murdering his family inside their Callahan home is facing arraignment this morning.
Broyles was indicted on three counts of first-degree murder for fatally shooting his 57-year-old wife, Candace L. Broyles; his 27-year-old daughter Cora Lynn Broyles; and his 28-year-old son Aaron Christopher Broyles in their home in December 2021.
Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper, who described the case as tragic said that the Broyles family had no history of domestic violence in a press conference following the shooting. HE also said that Broyles daughter may have had autism.
Broyles who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering and has worked in the aerospace and medical device industries worked in the family’s church for more than 23 years.
The state intends to seek the death penalty.
The State said in its “Notice of Intent to Seek Death Penalty and Notice of Aggravating Factors,” which was filed on January 26, 2022, the alleged murders of Broyles’ family “were committed in a cold, calculated, and premeditated manner without any pretense of moral or legal justification.”
In its death penalty filing on Broyles, the state says, “The victim of the capital felony was particularly vulnerable due to advanced age or disability, or because the defendant stood in a position of familial or custodial authority over the victim (Count 2).”
Broyles has previously pleaded not guilty and has waived his appearance at any scheduled pre-trial hearings. He is being held in the Nassau County Jail on no bond.
